A student mentor supporting a young person at home in an underserved neighborhood
AFEV has been working for over 30 years to support youth from underprivileged neighborhoods by mobilizing university students across France. The organisation focuses on mentoring young people aged 5 to 17, with students visiting the child’s home for two hours each week.
This mentorship helps boost academic performance, builds self-confidence, and broadens cultural and social horizons — with the student acting as a positive role model.
Highlights
- France’s leading youth mentoring organization, operating primarily in underserved urban areas (QPV) across the country
- A tailored approach for each child, with dedicated programs focused on reading, cultural exposure, confidence building, and learning strategies
- Acting at the root of educational inequality, with nearly 50% of mentored children in preschool and primary school coming from priority education zones

Our organizational development projects with the association
Since 2016, the AlphaOmega Foundation has been supporting AFEV in addressing major challenges related to its growth. Here are three key projects focused on scaling the organization:
- Digital transformation of AFEV, including the implementation of an effective digital volunteer mobilization strategy, with on-line onboarding
- HR structuring of the local teams to manage the rapid growth of the Mentoring Plan and the significant expansion of teams
- Implementation of an engagement strategy designed to increase mentor retention and renewal rates
